The design layout for Tom Hart Dyke's dream garden at
Lullingstone Castle required an
environmentally
sensitive understanding of how the final scheme would work. The
garden was designed as a 3D map, complete with miniature
mountain ranges and pathways which criss-crossed the continents
and islands. Conscious of the range of visitors to the garden,
each of the 'coastlines' also had to be accessible for wheelchair
users.
After construction, it was over to Tom to fill his dream garden
with plants collected from across the globe. The process of
planting each part of the map with species from corresponding
continents and countries is on going.
Designing the
scheme
Technical planning
To design a
garden like the World Garden takes professional training and
experience. Imagine a giant 3D jigsaw puzzle. To help Adam
work out the complex array of gradients and ground levels,
Adam used state-of-the-art CAD (Computer Aided Design)
landscape software to draft the final layout for the garden.
It's the
flexible approach to design at Adam S Bailey Garden
Design which ensures each project is carefully thought
through from start to finish, with attention paid to the
smallest of details.
"We've
discussed the layout of the garden with Tom right from day
one, to ensure the final scheme matches his requirements.
It's all about creating the right conditions for the plants
and ensuring visitors will be able to see the thousands of
species which will finally make their home in the garden.
