Designer of the Tom Hart Dyke's World Garden, Adam S Bailey The World Garden

The award-winning World Garden at Lullingstone Castle in Eynsford, Kent, designed by Adam S Bailey (left) for Tom Hart Dyke, is a prestigious project and set to become one of the major garden attractions of Kent.

With thousands of plants on a 3D map of the world, the World Garden is adventurous horticulture....

The idea...

The original idea was the dream of Tom Hart Dyke, plant hunter and author who was captured by guerrillas in Panama in 2000 with his fellow back-packer Paul Winder, whilst looking for orchids in the Darien Gap.

During his nine month ordeal Tom aspired to create a garden based on a map of the world if he ever made it out alive....Thankfully Tom survived and in January 2004 approached Adam of Adam S Bailey Garden Design to ask him to help design the layout of the grand scheme, complete with its raised continents and thousands of plant species.

The aim of the garden was to develop the old herb garden within the grounds of the castle and create a giant world map, with 3D landmasses, all planted according to the species native to that part of the world e.g. Australia - Eucalyptus.

Adam's involvement in the design of the garden was crucial to its success. The garden at Lullingstone Castle is now into its third year and has been under the watchful eyes of a TV crew who have been filming the creation of the garden.
